Emergency services and Urgent Care Centre at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital are available to patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Out-of-Hours service is operated from Telford and Wrekin Hospital, Telford. On weekdays after 6pm and at the weekend or on bank holidays please contact NHS 111 for advice. Urgent treatment is available for urgent conditions that need attention immediately but are not life-threatening, and can be seen at our Urgent Care Centre based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. They will provide a free, confidential and non-judgemental telephone assessment and referral service for adults over the age of 16 who require support and guidance with mental ill health, psychological distress and stress-related problems. We welcome telephone calls on our normal number 01743 274634. Nurse Practitioners are registered health professionals who are highly qualified nurses with additional post-graduate training. They are qualified to diagnose illnesses, order tests and prescribe medication when necessary. Nurse Practitioners will also be available to see patients with minor illnesses who would not normally need a GP appointment, so they can be treated quicker and the appointments available for more urgent conditions. Patients can self-refer to see a Nurse Practitioner, either through your own GP practice, or from any Walk in Centre or Emergency Department. Nurse Practitioners will not provide emergency treatment such as an X-ray, scan or blood tests. Patients with long-term conditions including asthma, diabetes, COPD and epilepsy are usually seen in clinic by a healthcare professional such as a nurse or pharmacist. If you think you need to be seen urgently by a healthcare professional we advise that you go to your nearest Accident and Emergency Department or call 111.
