Particular emphasis is placed on the club's role in space exploration, public understanding of science, and education.

It describes how the Explorers Club has grown from a very small organization to one of the largest and most influential non-governmental organizations. The club now includes scientists, professionals and everyday people who join the club for a variety of reasons, but all for the common purpose of exploring, discovering and getting involved with science.

The Explorers Club Bulletin - The club's magazine. It publishes news of meetings, expeditions, expeditions planning, and current events. It also contains articles about history and science, including science fiction, astronomy, earth sciences and space exploration. Explorers Club's Guide to Field Guides - The first publication to come out of the Explorers Club's publishing program. The Guide contains the essential knowledge base of field guides and natural history literature for collectors. The book goes beyond the printed version, providing information that is only obtainable by email. A guide to obtaining field guides is available online. The guide includes field guides, as well as books of interest to collectors, and books of interest to amateur naturalists.
Explorers Club Journal of Exploration History - This quarterly journal explores a single area, place, or topic in depth. Explorers Club journals are archived online and can be accessed from The Explorers Club website.
The Explorers Club also hosts the annual Explorers Club Photo Contest, which accepts photographs of explorers and explorers clubs from around the world.
