This year, the NFL has partnered with Pop Warner in a three-year $10 million pledge to fund helmet and safety improvements at more than 100 Pop Warner programs nationwide.
According to Gia, as the program continues to grow, so does the number of kids participating in the sport.
“We do have a pretty big team, but there’s actually a lot of people we don’t know personally,” Gia explained. “It is a very big event with football like this. I believe this is the largest [Pittsburgh] parade ever.”
Not only is the parade exciting for the kids, but their entire team’s families will get to see the celebration too. There are even plans for a parade viewing party in advance.
“The parade is great. You get to see everyone you care about and share the excitement,” Gia said.
The school will also host a Pop Warner football camp, beginning the last week in June. The school is excited to have Coach Blevins back this year.
“When he’s out here, it’s like going to his office because everyone wants to come and talk with him,” Gia said. “Every person, no matter who you are, has a story. You can tell a lot about people from their past. Coach Blevins brings out a lot of that, and it helps everybody see his compassion and how well he treats everybody.”
This year, Coach Blevins will be back to teach a two-week Camp Dazzler Football camp. He’s also hosting a Pop Warner football camp at Pitt in June.
“The kids go crazy when he comes, it’s like everybody comes alive,” Gia added.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have been around for over 100 years. However, they haven’t won a championship in over 70 years. If history is anything to go by, that will change in the next few seasons. The Pirates need fans to support the team so they can get back into the World Series.
The history of the Pittsburgh Pirates began in 1887, when they were known as the Allegheny, Pittsburgh Athletic Association. The team’s original nickname was the Pittsburgh Burghers. However, because the team had a lot of German-American fans, they had to change it to avoid the confusion between the name of the team and the name of a rival team.
The Pirates were the first professional sports team in Pennsylvania. Pittsburgh was a manufacturing hub at the time and they had a lot of workers who made good money. Even though the team didn’t have many black players at the time, they had a large minority fan base because they supported their team in a rough and tumble city.
Pittsburgh is the largest city in western Pennsylvania, but the Pittsburgh Pirates never made it to the World Series until 1960. Since then, they have had a long history of trying to win a World Series. The Pirates haven’t won a championship since 1960 and haven’t been to the playoffs since 1992.
Even though the team hasn’t won in many years, it’s still a big part of Pittsburgh’s culture.
“Even though they’re not winning now, I still think they’re going to win,” Gia said. “I don’t really watch baseball, but they’re still a big part of Pittsburgh.”
She said that because people in Pittsburgh love their sports teams and no one can match the success of a successful team like the Steelers and the Penguins.
Most of the team’s wins took place when the team was based in Pittsburgh. However, the Pirates played in Atlanta, then known as Ponce City Stadium, from 1970 to 1996.
The team’s manager from 1983 to 1997 was Chuck Tanner. He is the only Pirates manager to manage the team to a World Series win. Tanner led the team to a playoff win in 1993. However, Tanner’s job security wasn’t as secure as he may have thought. Tanner was fired after the team went from having a record of 101-103 in 1994 to a record of 67-95 in 1995. Even though he was fired after the season, the team hired Bobby Cox.
It took Cox only three seasons to turn the Pirates into a playoff team. The team made the playoffs in 1995 and then swept the St. Louis Cardinals in the Division Series, winning Game 7 by a score of 8-3.
In 1996, the team won the National League Eastern Division Championship by beating the New York Mets by a score of 4-1.
Pittsburgh then went on to win the World Series.
The Pittsburgh Pirates continue to be among the top teams in the National League. They have a record of 81-80 in the 2017 season.
The team has a lot of young talent on their roster. In this year’s draft, they drafted pitchers Jameson Taillon and Stetson Allie. They also drafted a couple of infielders in third baseman Kevin Newman and shortstop Cole Tucker.

The Pirates have had some bad luck in the last 20 years. Their manager, Clint Hurdle, resigned after the 2013 season and was replaced by John Russell in 2014. Russell was fired after the 2015 season. Hurdle then came back to the team and coached them for the next five seasons. He retired from baseball after the 2018 season, when he joined the Colorado Rockies.
