Disney bedtime phone hotline in 1995, the Mouse House began offering a limited edition of the phone, featuring a Mickey Mouse figure on the dial. There was a certain amount of resistance to the Mickey Mouse phones. Disney didn’t want the phone in the hands of kids at first, but it also didn’t want to have kids in its buildings either. The phones were used by employees. One Disney employee was quoted as saying: “The phones weren’t intended to be toys, though a small percentage were played with. If they were going to be toys they should have been toys for adults, something more sophisticated than a Mickey Mouse phone.” The Mickey Mouse phone may have started off as a novelty item, but Mickey Mouse still has a presence in the world of technology. His image is plastered all over Disney World — on buildings and attractions, but also on the latest toys and gadgets. From smartphones to video game consoles, Mickey Mouse is everywhere.
