Young at Heart, Vol. 1: Love Stories Are Just Like That was published in the UK in October 2011 and in the US the following month. The book is a collection of six short stories with illustrations by British artist, Nick Roberts. They are about people in their 20s who want to fall in love. The book was launched by Prince Charles at a reception at Clarence House attended by 200 of his closest friends, plus actors David Tennant, Hugh Bonneville and Miranda Hart and authors Philip Pullman and J. K. Rowling. The six stories and author interviews are available to read on the author's website for free in ePub, Kindle and PDF formats. The book was listed on The Bookseller's 'Top Ten Fiction' list for October 2011. The paperback edition was released by Orion on 30 October 2011 and went straight into the bestseller list in both the UK and USA, reaching number 10 on the USA Kindle bestseller list. The novel was nominated for Best Book at the 2012 British Book Awards. It won "Best Children's Fiction" at the BBC Audio Drama Awards 2012. Young at Heart Vol. 1: Love Stories Are Just Like That has been translated into several other languages including French, Dutch, German, Hungarian, Korean, Polish, Spanish, Russian and Japanese. It is about love in different situations. In one story a woman is trying to win over her children's father by baking him cakes. In another story, a group of male friends plan to save their old schoolteacher from going bankrupt. These are just some of the stories. All the stories are presented in the style of modern paperbacks and come in the format of a diary, with each chapter being dated. The book is aimed at the 10–14 age range. The wife has spent two years baking it and she makes sure it is extra special. When she makes it, her daughters find that her husband has bought a new car. I Hate You. But I'm Loving You Two old friends who are rivals in their workplace decide to surprise their favourite teacher when he is in hospital. The nurse tells them how important his class has been in his life. Dad and the Girl at the Post Office A man goes to visit his best friend and the girl who works at the post office. She finds out that he is planning to move away from their small town. The Big Surprise of Cindy's Life Cindy and Nick are not talking to each other and they both want to get together. They arrange for them both to go on holiday together. Friends Reunited Paul wants to meet up with his old schoolfriends and invites them to his parents' house for a meal. The friends decide to have a walk in the country but they get lost.
