The Karate Kid (2010)
The Karate Kid (2010) - Directed by Harald Zwart. With Hilary Swank and Jaden Smith. This was the first film adaptation of the franchise. Unlike the TV series, the film shows Jaden Smith playing Johnny Lawrence and not Daniel LaRusso. The film follows a similar plot to the original with the major differences being the title character (Daniel LaRusso) is sent by his mother, played by Susan Sarandon, to his aunt's house in an upper-class neighborhood in California where he meets a girl (Haley Bennett) who is dating his best friend (Jaden Smith). The film also stars Pat Morita in a cameo role as one of the principal's of Daniel's school.
This version of the film features karate moves which were not in the original The Karate Kid. It was released straight to DVD in 2011.
