Influenced by an early introduction to jazz and modern dance he joined a folk-rock band, Les Chaussettes Noires, at age 16. As a result of his growing interest in music, he and his family relocated to Paris. Gainsbourg formed Les Enfants De France in 1950, together with his first wife Jane Birkin and, later, Brigitte Fontaine and Charlotte Gainsbourg. In addition to his solo releases, he was also part of singer Françoise Hardy's 'Duos Et Plus' in the mid-50s. Other important contributions came from 'Les Chic', which included Pierre Doris and Yves 'Le Pantin' Leborgne, and Les Chaussettes Noires. The final member of this quintet was Jacques Pills, formerly of Les Rats. The trio produced several '
