College and University Classes School Holiday Programs Bunk Camp The Bunk Camp program is currently held at the Gold Coast. It is a camp for boys and girls from Years 4 – 12, which offers an opportunity for participants to get away from the everyday routine and develop self-reliance and independence. Each day is spent exploring, developing friendships, and having fun! Themed Camp- Days and Nights in the Forest Themed Camp- Days and Nights in the Forest is held over five days during the school term and can be provided on the Gold Coast, Cedar Creek or Mareeba. The program is aimed at providing an ideal opportunity for young people to engage in learning activities while having fun and experiencing outdoor activities. This will also provide a unique experience of camping in a residential camp situation away from home and other distractions. The program focuses on developing life skills such as developing positive social skills, understanding cultural differences, managing fear of new situations and the ability to trust and accept people. Day and Night Camps Day and Night Camps are offered as a school holiday program and during school term at a range of locations. The camp is a unique experience where children are able to experience first hand the vast natural environment of Cairns. The Camp provides an ideal experience for children to participate in a wide variety of activities that they may not be able to access elsewhere. Our day camps include a variety of activities ranging from water games, horse riding, canoeing, games and activities as well as morning assembly. Our programs aim to develop important life skills such as leadership and cooperation, while enhancing curiosity and learning. Our programs are available during the week to cater for school holiday programs. Inclusion Centres Daisy Hill – Inclusive education for deaf students in regional NSW Inclusion Centres are programs specifically for students who may have a disability. These programs are offered at Daisy Hill and offer opportunities for students to participate in fun, educational, recreational and social experiences. Special Needs Coordinators There are now Special Needs Coordinator positions available for the Northern & Far North Coast as part of the Cairns State School Network. There are also part-time Special Needs Coordinator positions available. All positions offer school-based accommodation with free access to community based services. Parents or individuals are able to stay at the schools in their own accommodation. Special Needs Coordinators are fully-qualified and experienced professionals who work within their own communities as independent contractors. Special Needs Coordinators provide a variety of services to students at home and/or school. They provide consultation, coordination and advocacy in a professional and respectful manner. Special Needs Coordinators have knowledge in a number of key areas which include: Speech, Language and Literacy Social, Emotional and Behavioural Physical Development Self Esteem and General Development Special Educational Needs Behavioural Support Plans Transition Services Coaching Inclusion, Respite and Out-of-School Programs Special Needs Coordinators are able to provide a range of services in partnership with other professionals, parents and other community members. Special Needs Coordinator positions are particularly suited to children and families who require more than one service. Special Needs Coordinators are well supported by experienced and highly qualified support staff who are able to support them in their work. The School Board also offers funding to assist with transportation and/or carer costs, if required. A Coordinator is also available to provide one-on-one tuition for students and their families, if required. The SIFEL program is designed to enable early childhood development to all children from birth to the commencement of school. These programs include: Playgroups Pre-school activities including literacy and numeracy Early childhood education programs to improve the literacy and numeracy skills of children Eating and social development classes Reading and writing programs The primary aim is to develop the whole child and to help them develop a range of skills including learning how to care for themselves, developing their literacy and numeracy skills and also social development. You can also access the booking system online, on your mobile device by using the LFN website. Bookings are not made online for SIFEL. What is the SIFEL website? How do I access the SIFEL program? To access the SIFEL program, contact Renee Crampton of the Cairns State School Network. Can I visit the SIFEL program? There is no current access to the premises for visitors at this time. How does the cost of SIFEL work? The costs associated with accessing the SIFEL program are based on a fee for service system. Fees for service are based on the type of service being accessed.
